Walking with others

The best experience the IVV has to offer

Currently, many walking offers are cancelled worldwide due to the Covid-19 virus. Please inform yourself before you go to an event.
Stay healthy!

Welcome to the event portal of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV). Through walking you will find fun, health and sociability - just come and join in.

Single-Day Events

The IVV, its member associations and clubs offer numerous walking days throughout the year, mostly on weekends. The walking trails are often 5, 10 and 20 km long and well signposted. Friends of the long distances find also walking offers of 42 km and more. As circular trails, the trails usually lead back to the start. You can start the walk according to your own wishes in a given time frame. Advance booking is usually not necessary. Just go there and join in.

Guided Walking Days

Guided Walking Days are guided by expert walking guides. In manageable groups, they tell interesting facts about sights, and know many anecdotes about the country and its people. The IVV, its member associations and clubs may offer numerous Guided Walking Days throughout the year. Often, there are alternative routes to choose from, for example 5, 10 or 20 km; now and then, also marathons and more. Usually, they lead back to the start as circuits. A start time is given.

Guided Walking Weeks

Guided Walking Weeks take place in beautiful holiday areas and are ideal for walking holidays. Most of the time, you walk during the week from Monday to Friday. Often two alternative routes are offered per day. There is something for both pleasure walkers and sports enthusiasts. During the walks, walking guides tell interesting facts about the fauna and flora, about important sights and natural beauties, and know many anecdotes about the country and its people. Conviviality is important. During the walks and the resulting togetherness, you will meet nice like-minded people. The participation fee and conditions are determined by the organizer.

Permanent Trails

Get to know the sights and natural beauties of the regions. And this is how it works: you travel to the start point of your choice. The usual starting points are tourist information offices, hotels, restaurants and cafés. You buy a start card for a small fee. You will receive information about the walking route and sometimes a route description or sketch. As circular trails, the routes usually lead back to the start. Permanent trails are permanent; however, there may be seasonal restrictions.

Round and Long Distance Trails

Round and Long Distance Trails often form a walk network of 120 or 160 km. They are walked in several stages, mostly 10 to 20 km, in the order you decide for yourself. As part of a walking holiday, you can tackle all the routes one day at a time or, if you can reach them easily, you can travel to each individual stage. Cycling tours are also offered. The walking trails may be signposted, and a walking guide (small handbook) provides assistance.
